Interview with Cartel Madras

We jumped on Zoom with Bhagya “Eboshi” Ramesh and Priya “Contra” Ramesh, the two badass sisters that compose Canadian hip-hop dup Cartel Madras! Originally from Chennai, India, Contra and Eboshi have made a splash in the Calgary, Alberta music scene with their addicting, intense, and powerful beats (self-described as Goonda rap) as well as their unforgettable style.

In this interview, we discuss the difficulties such an outspoken group can face, like Instagram haters from all over the world and censorship from online platforms. We also delve into non-musical as well as musical influences, such as author Jeffrey Eugenides and M.I.A. And, of course, we also made time for fun topics, such as Eric Andre’s OnlyFans and our favorite accessories.

Their upcoming project, The Serpent and the Tiger, is set to be released this year.
