Interview with Ren Marabou

Donegal-based rock musician Ren Marabou filled out a quick Q&A for us!

What were your first impressions of your bandmates?

Fist impressions… What a bunch of legends!!!

What is your favourite memory of playing shows?

It feels like a life time since shows have stopped. Coming up to a full year since lockdown.  So many great memories, one that stand out is supporting Legendary Slovakian punk band, Konflikt. The crowd was insane, I never experienced energy like it. I can’t wait to hit the road again and play songs from my new albums.

What artist would be your dream collaboration?

A dream collaboration would be with Viking metal heroes Tyr. They have been paving the way in the scene since the late 90’s. Their creativity and musicianship is outstanding.

What song are you most proud of and why?

It very hard to pick a favourite child but maybe ‘Axe and Shield’ from my new album ‘Way Finder’. I think it’s a great representation of my combined musical influences. Can’t wait to play it live. The track also has a cool and fun Viking themed music video which people can check out my my IGTV and Facebook page.

What are some of your non-musical influences?

Norse Mythology has a huge influence on me which is probably very apparent with the lyrical content of my latest album. It’s a theme I will be continuing with in my future albums.

What is your go to gas station order?

A full tank of petrol and of course a large Frank and Honest coffee.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Probably use ear plugs at rehearsals because tinnitus is rough. A lighter piece of advice would be, build a house in a remote place like on an Island maybe. Stock it with a years worth of supplies and move there at the end of February 2020, you will thank me!!!

What are your goals and plans for the year?

There’s is alot going on behind the scenes at the moment, it’s all hush hush but in a few weeks all will be revealed. In the mean time my newly released album ‘Way Finder’ is available on all major platforms including Spotify, iTunes, Amazon, Deezer and Google Play etc.
