Blitz and Schtorm from Czech rock band Blitz Union were kind enough to do a little Q&A with us.
WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST IMPRESSION OF YOUR BANDMATES WHEN YOU MET?
Mark Blitz: The history of our relationship, how we got to know each other, goes way back to the past. Initially, it was not music at all what put us together. Our ways crossed because of our common “research/obsession”. And this “research” was later on the main impulse to found Blitz Union. We will need our followers to help us out with this matter, but we do not have all the data ready yet. However, you can expect revelation of the first details soon.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY PLAYING SHOWS?
Mark Blitz: We had a really great time in “Westand Kultur – und Eventzentrum,” Braunschweig (Germany) last February, where we had a chance to play two nights in a row as a support act for the legendary rock band Oomph!. There were about 2,000 people each night, so it was an ideal chance to shoot a video for our song “TV” there. The friendly vibe and professional organization of both shows made everything easier. And of course the “killer” audience was amazing! I like to remember both nights.
WHAT ARTIST WOULD BE YOUR DREAM COLLABORATION?
Schtorm: Miley Cyrus. And I’m dead serious. Please send this to her management. [Laughter] I believe we could do an exciting, fresh rock anthem together for young generations. Merging “Blitz Union’s” sound with recent stuff Miley did (or even what she did in the past!). The output could be very interesting I think.
WHAT SONG ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF AND WHY?
Mark Blitz: Currently, the song of which I am most proud of (so far) is paradoxically called “NOT PROUD.” [Laughter] This is the main song of our upcoming EP of the same name (which contains all the songs released since “TV” on). It deals with questions concerning the relationship between humans and their surroundings / nature and the inherent feeling of superiority our human race carries within. Nature can live without us, but we certainly can’t live without nature. Did we forget? The song is not out there yet, but we plan to release it in mid-April. Can’t wait to share this one with you all already!
WHAT IS YOUR GO-TO GAS STATION ORDER?
Mark Blitz: A great cup of coffee. Americano – no sugar, no milk! In addition to that – a mini-donut or mini-chocolate bar.
What are your non-musical influences?
Mark Blitz: If we stayed in the culture sphere, I would definitely mention David Lynch and Quentin Tarantino. I love their movies. Other than that, the influences all around us all the time. It depends on what you are attracting your attention to and how much you realize it.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO YOUR YOUNGER SELF?
Mark Blitz: “Don’t listen to me.” That would be my advice [Laughter]. I am glad for everything that I have gone through and experienced. All the ups and downs were necessary for my personal development.
WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THE YEAR?
Mark Blitz: Our current main priority is to produce as much music as possible. We would like to release our first full album this fall so there is a lot of work ahead of us. But you can expect more of Blitz Union’s music to be released throughout the whole year.
Also we would love to do some live shows – but you know how it is right now… We try to be patient and have the hope that everything will be back in normal soon and that this pause of “cultural life” will help to arouse greater interest in people to attend and support any mass events in the field of art once possible again.
