Dreamy shoegaze project Fox Violet filled out a quick Q&A for us!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY PLAYING SHOWS?
Feeling the intense and exhilarating energy of the strangers in the dark room I’m playing in. Any show is amazing and life affirming. I can’t wait to play again. It’s all about the live experience at this point in my life.
WHAT ARTIST WOULD BE YOUR DREAM COLLABORATION?
I just love everything about Angel Olsen. She is all at once dreamy and dark, orchestral but intimate. Her lyrics just pull you in and you never want to leave.
WHAT SONG ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF AND WHY?
I think Freak because it truly is a deep dive into my vulnerability. I wanted this song to be about uniting the outsiders and connecting with people left out of society. I connect much more with these people than people who fit in.
WHAT IS YOUR GO-TO GAS STATION ORDER?
Chips of any kind and cookies!
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR NON-MUSICAL INFLUENCES?
Film and books. I love Terrence Malick! He is an inspirational film director who truly represents how I think often. His work is very dream orientated and you feel like you are deeply embedded inside a memory of some kind. It’s without limits and I always find his work inspiring. I am also really moved by great literature, mostly old books like Wuthering Heights.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO YOUR YOUNGER SELF?
I would tell myself to just dive right in, and not to worry about what people think of you so much.
WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THE YEAR?
I have an album coming out this fall called PRISMS, it’s a deep dive into lucid dreaming and the subconscious narrative that I have embedded in my lyrics. I then plan to tour as much as possible and hopefully go write some more stripped back acoustic tunes in a cabin on a cliff or in a wood someplace…
