Q&A with Slomo Casino

Manchester-based indie/pop/soul band Slomo Casino filled out a quick Q&A for us!

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST IMPRESSION OF YOUR BANDMATES WHEN YOU MET?

Jonny: Our first impression of each other was at music college, and as I’d enrolled earlier we each had our separate gang of friends. So at first as often happens at an arts college there was a fierce competitive rivalry as young budding musicians struggle to find their place in the world. But that soon dissolved with the realisation of how stupid it was and fast forward a couple of months, we got on like a house on fire and became flatmates.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY PLAYING SHOWS?

Jonny: For me it was supporting The Libertines at Alexandra Palace and the sheer loudness of my guitar during soundcheck. Producing noise that loud was a strangely empowering feeling AND the luxury of my stuff being carried off stage so I didn’t have to pack away is something I could get used to..

WHAT ARTIST WOULD BE YOUR DREAM COLLABORATION?

Jonny and Jack: Bruno Mars

WHAT SONG ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF AND WHY?

Jonny: There a song on our upcoming EP called ‘Balloon’ that’s always resonated with me from when we first began writing it. It’s the only ballad on the release, and the song is about a journey of searching for something bigger, full of hope and optimism. Mainly it’s the feeling that it captures rather than any specific message that I feel we achieved with the song.

WHAT IS YOUR GO-TO GAS STATION ORDER?

Jonny: My dream list from a service station is probably hash browns from McDonalds, wings from KFC and M & S’s cheese and onion sandwich.

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR NON-MUSICAL INFLUENCES?

Jonny and Jack: Italian food, Game Cube, smoked cheese and David Brent

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO YOUR YOUNGER SELF?

Jonny and Jack: Do not watch the last season of game of thrones, waste less time trying to perfect already hopeless football skills, and stay away from vodka..

WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THE YEAR?

Jonny and Jack: The title track from our debut EP Marshmallow comes out 17.09.21 and we will putting out songs from the EP one by one up until the full release on November 12th!! From then we’re gonna finish the year with a home show in Manchester and releasing some covers of some of our favourite tunes.
