Q&A with Catching Mangoes

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST IMPRESSION OF YOUR BANDMATES WHEN YOU MET?

Me and Dan have known each other since we were about 6. I think our first interaction was a fight over a toy. We haven’t changed much since. We then went on to write a concept album together about a young lad trying to find his lost-lost father and escape his dictatorially-led hometown called Kevin’s Town.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY PLAYING SHOWS?

We’ve had some bangers recently. We played at the Spice of Life in Soho last month which was absolutely packed and buzzing and everyone was loving it. Was also great to play in front of people who didn’t previously know us in Manchester and Birmingham and get our fan base growing.

WHAT ARTIST WOULD BE YOUR DREAM COLLABORATION?

Would love to do the music to a live musical to be honest haha, think we’d nail that – so maybe someone from the West End? Let’s get Kevin’s Town to the theatres.

WHAT SONG ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF AND WHY?

Kevin’s Town. Honestly had so much fun producing this album. It was so much hard work but I a genuinely so proud of the outcome, and if you like a bit of a fun time you’ll love it too. We’ve got some wicked vinyl copies too.

WHAT IS YOUR GO-TO GAS STATION ORDER?

Gotta be a £3 Tesco’s meal deal right? Can’t go wrong with one of them.

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR NON-MUSICAL INFLUENCES?

I’m a bit football fan, and watching England get to the final of the Euros was one of the highlights of my life – so I’m gonna say the entirety of that squad.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO YOUR YOUNGER SELF?

Persistence and perseverance.

WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THE YEAR?

We’re currently working on some new material to record and release early next year in EP form. It’s sounding really cool and I like the direction in which the music is going, it’s different again to anything else we’ve done before and I’m looking forward to get back in the studio.
