Q&A with Static Headz

Ruthlessly crashing the boundaries of hip hop in the cleverest ways, this metal/rock/rap posse is on a mission to change the game. Fortifying their distinctive sound with heavy guitar riffs, syncopated percussion, and over-the-top double-timed lyrics, Static Headz is destined to wreak havoc in their blending of genres and set the industry on fire. Each a stand-alone talent, these six rhythmic rebels united to bring a darker, heavier approach to rock/rap music while maintaining all the harmonies and lyrical hooks that captivate rock, metal and hip-hop fans alike. No doubt this rare product of Nashville will take the airwaves by storm. It’s only a matter of time.

What artist would be your dream collaboration?

Out of all the artists that we would love to do a collaboration with, putting together a track with Mike Shinoda would be a dream come true. Linkin Park is such a huge influence on all of us and helped paved the way for the type of music we put out.

What song are you most proud of and why?

On this upcoming record, our track ‘Fake Face’ came out the best. The song has a ton of energy and has a great blend of all of our individual influences all wrapped into one track. It has a singable, catchy hook, aggressive riffs, and hip-hop-inspired verses.

What is your star sign, and do you feel like it represents your artistic style? Why or why not?

This is tough to answer because there are several horoscopes in the band. One of our songwriters and guitarist, Cody, is a cancer which are said to be emotional, and that definitely comes out in his writing. Our other songwriter and vocalist, Kevin, is a Gemini and said to have whit and quick thinking abilities which works well for his lyrical delivery.

What is your go-to gas station order?

Purple Nos energy drink, a pack of spicy beef jerky, and sour patch kids.

What are some of your non-musical influences, like books or movies?

Any Christopher Nolan movie or Quentin Tarantino movie. The Batman trilogy are definitely some of the bands favorites. One of our vocalists, Zach, even has Batman tattoos on his chest.

What’s a lyric from one of your songs that is especially meaningful to you? Tell us a bit about it!

The track ‘Embrace’ is very meaningful because it’s written about the death of our guitarist, Cody’s, father. The lyrics are pretty self explanatory, ‘I long for your Embrace.’ Dealing with death isn’t easy, and we are very proud of the way that track turned out. It’s also the first time we’ve written a ballad style song and it’s very piano driven.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Get used to only being able to rely on yourself. We’ve hit so many roadblocks along the way with this record and it seemed like we never were going to release the music. But staying determined and never giving up in the face of adversity is going to make everything worth it in the end.

What are your goals for the year, and what can we expect to see from you in the future? The biggest goal for us was getting the record released which is happening on Nov. 26, so we are very happy about that. For next year, we want to start playing shows again and promote the album as much as we can. Towards the end of the year, hopefully we will be working on new music again.
